How to Drive

SLOW TRAFFIC IN LEFT LANES - I love those "I've got to get over in the middle regardless of how fast the traffic is moving" drivers, the "I can't make up my mind how fast I'm gonna' drive" drivers, the "I'm gonna' just move over into the next lane for no apparent reason, and why bother to look to see if there's any approaching traffic in that lane as long as I'm not going to hit someone immediately" drivers!

NOT MAINTAINING SPEED - You're driving a steady speed, as you should try to do, and you pass a car (on its left), and the next thing you know, it’s passing you; or you try to pass another car, and it speeds up with you. Maintain speed – figure out what speed you’re going to drive, get there, and maintain it. Cars around you will have a lot easier time driving if you don’t unexpectedly (READ: For no reason) speed up or slow down. Use cruise control. What the hell are you slowing for? A hill? Oh yeah lots of people have lost control of their car in a bad HILL! Maybe in a bad CURVE, but a HILL? It's a HILL! Oh, no! It's a car on the shoulder, or, worse yet, the PoPo! OMG, those scary blue lights are going to make you lose control! Jesus, just press the gas pedal! STOP f'ing RUBBERNECKING!

Slower traffic - keep right!

Don't stop traffic that is moving to let someone out of a side street or driveway. They can freakin' wait until traffic is stopped!

And soccer mom's after you drop off the kids at school, hurry up and get to Starbucks and get your ass off the streets so we can get to work. Better yet, how 'bout your kids ride the friggin' school bus to school?

Use the DECEL and ACCEL lanes - Don't slow in the traffic lane - that's what a DECEL lane is for; don't sit in the entrance waiting for someone to stop and open up a gap to let you in - if there's an ACCEL lane use it, and avoid screwing up traffic

Think ahead, look ahead, and always be thinking about what you’d do if the guy next to you or in front of you does something bonehead. Know what exit you’re going to take, and if you find that you’ve missed your exit, don’t cut across several lanes to make it – it’s safer for everyone to just drive on to the next one, and turn around or go another route from that exit.

HOV Lane – It’s for high occupancy vehicles, it’s not a “Fast” lane. If you want to get around someone in the HOV lane, it’s your problem – move to the right to go around them, and stay OFF their ass!.

YOU and Faster Traffic – Before changing lanes, please check your f---ing mirrors to see if the lane into which you plan to move has faster traffic approaching, and, if moving to the right, delay your move until the approaching, faster traffic passes. If moving to the left, ask yourself why, and, if not to pass the car in front of you, stay where you are.

DOT needs to post signs at On ramps “Match your speed with that of traffic”

How Road Signs Work – The graphic on a highway sign shows how the lanes are actually laid out – use it to figure out in advance which lane you need to be in when the highway splits. 3 lanes on the sign mean there are 3 lanes in which to drive. DUH!

Flashing headlights – What do they mean? – If someone in the oncoming traffic is flashing their headlights, they may be trying to signal something, possibly to YOU. They could be trying to warn that there is an accident ahead, that there is a cop with speed detection device ahead, or that YOU don’t have your lights on! Same with someone flashing their lights from behind you. They may be trying to tell YOU something. Take a second to consider that.
